Ironman Austria
Klagenfurt, Austria
July 5, 2009

At a glance:
Entry deadline – Race is sold-out
45 age group and 5 professional slots for the Ironman World Championship

Klagenfurt is the most southern regional capital in Austria and the historic, economic and cultural heart of Carinthia. Klagenfurt and the region around Lake Wörther See provide the perfect setting for an Ironman event. The countryside and the picturesque villages along the racecourse fascinate athletes and visitors alike.

Swim Course: 1 lap

The swim takes place in Strandbad Klagenfurt, the biggest lakeside resort in Europe. The water temperature of Lake Wörther Sees is normally around 25 degrees Celsius (approximately 72 degrees Fahrenheit, wetsuits allowed). The last 900m lead into the Lendkanal. The mood is unique here, because just a few meters separate spectators and swimmers.

Bike course: 2-laps

The two-loop bike course is the fastest of all Ironman competitions worldwide. The course offers a scenic course and a few challenging hills but not too demanding.

Run course: 2-laps

The marathon along Lake Wörther See and through the historical centre of Klagenfurt is entirely flat and the constant change of scenic beauty and cultural sights is impressive.
The run course is a friendly two-loop course.
