Ironman Lanzarote
May 23, 2009
Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

Lanzarote, called 'Conejera' by the islanders, is also known as the island of 100 volcanoes. Its volcanic origin has created a landscape with more than 300 volcanoes. It is the most eastern island of the Canarian archipelago and it is situated very close to the African coast (which is some 125km away) and north of Fuerteventura.

The ideal opportunity to qualify for Hawaii early in almost identical conditions to those you will experience at Kona.

Swim Course: 2-loops
The swim start is a beach start. The swim course consists of two laps of each 1.9 km. After finishing the first lap the athletes will have to run approximately 10 meters on the beach before entering the ocean for the second lap.

Bike course: 1-loop
The bike course is one lap 180 km. The race recommends the following gearing: back 13-24, front 52-39.
There are 12 aid stations including 1 special feed station. The aid stations contain the following: water, Coca-Cola, energy drink and food and fruit.
The special feed station, which is located at Mirador de Haria, only contains bags deposited by athletes Saturday morning before the race in the transition zone in Puerto del Carmen.

Run course: 1-loop
The run course is a 5.275 km out and back course. There are 4 aid stations, which are located at each 1,5 km. They contain the following: water, Coca-Cola, energy drink and food, fruit, sponges and Vaseline. The first aid station will also contain personal drinks handing in on race morning.
After each lap the athletes will receive a colored string, this is to identify runners who are going straight into the finish area at the fourth lap.
No personal helpers are allowed at aid stations or anywhere else.
All courses can be changed without any notice due to local circumstances such as roadwork etc.
